ShesConnected Conference Connecting Brands with Digital Women Debuts in Toronto
October 14, 2010 – Toronto, ON – As social media challenges traditional media for the influential spotlight, more and more women are joining the ranks. In fact, these ‘digital women’ have become the key influencers within this growing medium. In light of this trend, ShesConnected.com, the creators of the first online social media site that speaks to both a women’s personal and professional interests, is holding a conference and workshop in Toronto to connect top brands with these Canadian women. Industry leading brands including Kobo, Inc., The Coca Cola Company, Calvin Klein, Smashbox Cosmetics, Maple Leaf Foods, Kraft Canada, Look Good Feel Better, Seagram’s, Bourjois Paris, Egg Farmers of Ontario, and Booty Camp Fitness will be sponsoring and participating in the event to learn new strategies for marketing to these digital women – a demographic that controls 85% of all household expenditures.
During the last year, we have experienced first hand the power of social media and how it relates to increasing awareness about our brand,” says Liz Ridout V.P. Marketing and Communications at Kobo Inc. “We are thrilled to be participating in this ground-breaking conference as it provides us with the opportunity to connect with women who have a vested interest in our products.
Women attending the conference, being held on October 20th, 2010, at the Toronto Reference Library, applied online and were then carefully selected by the ShesConnected team. A total 100 women were chosen as Canada’s Most Digitally Connected Women, based on their influence online. Criteria for selection included how many social media platforms the women use including blogs, facebook, and twitter, how many connections and online friends they have, and the quality and frequency of content they post.
This event is the first of its kind,” says Donna Marie Antoniadis, Co-founder & CEO of ShesConnected Multimedia Corp., and one of the @Forbes Top 20 best-branded women on Twitter. “Rather than the women paying to attend the conference, the companies are assisting by sponsoring the individuals. There has never been a more influential group of digital women gathered in one room in this country. We are proud to be offering this unprecedented opportunity to both groups.
